Jakarta (ANTARA News) - PT Cheetam Salt Ltd of Australia is exploring the possibility of opening a salt farming on a 2,100 hectare-site in Nagekeo district, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the company`s of chief executive officer said.
Cheetam`s CEO Andrew Speed said here on Thursday that his company was now in the stage of a field research and selection of a proper land location of 2,100 hectares. It is also taking into account the needed facilities and infrastructures.
"The calculation also needed to be discussed with the regional government, therefore we have not yet been able to know the amount of investment needed for the project," Andew said.
He said that his company would concentrate on land expansion for salt production in NTT whose processing would be carried in Cilegon, Banten.
"We will use the 12-month time based on the Memorandum of Understanding to prepare land for the salt production," he said.
At present, the company already has salt processing in Cilegon to process salt from Australia with an investment of three million Australian dollars. Salt from NTT is alson expected to be processed in Cilegon.
Nagekeo district head Yohanes S Aoh said meanwhile that Cheetam was now conducting a survey to build the salt farming in Waburung village of Nagekeo district.
The regional government would approach local people so that would be prepared to use their land for the production salt.
