Jakarta (ANTARA News) - India-based motorcycle producer PT TVS Motor Company will launch two kinds of motorcycle, namely one with a 100-cc engine and another with a 150-cc engine, in Indonesia later this year, a spokesman said here Tuesday.
"TVS Motor Company is ready to launch the new 100-cc motorcycle as it already controls 99 percent of the motorcycle market in Indonesia," TVS Motor Company Indonesia (TMCI) president director BLP Simha said after announcing the line up of the company`s board of commissioners.
The company would initially produce 300,000 motorcycles with the 100-cc engine.
TMCI was optimistic the 100-cc engine motorbike market would make rapid progress as the Indonesian economy continued to recuperate, not to mention the flow of foreign investors who want to start business in the country, Simha said.
At the early stage, the manufacturing of the 300,000 motorcycles using the 100-cc engine would utilize a local content of only 40 percent but it would be raised to 80 percent later.
TMCI would set up 60 dealers in 2007 and cooperate with the leasing and banking sectors to secure a bigger market share in Indonesia.
TMCI was planning to step up its investment to US$100 million in Indonesia in years to come in an effort to become one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in Southeast Asia.
Therefore the company was building an integrated factory on 20-ha of land in Karawang district in West Java province.
The TMCI board of commissioners consists of chief commissioner Nihal Kaviratne CBE, as well as members Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, Rudjito, James William Castle, H. Laksmanan and K.N. Radhakrishnan.(*)
